We stayed at Maskam Guest Farm for two nights, October 30 and 31st in 2013. Maskam farm is not very big compared to other farms we have visited. It is also the first organic rooibos farm we have stayed at. The farm is about 10 miles south of Vanrhynsdorp. The hosts were very friendly and the cottage (one of 3 they have for rent) was a two bedroom fully equipped cottage. A free sample of their excellent organic rooibos was a nice touch. You can also purchase their organic rooibos if you want to take some with you like we did.
A nice option was the dinners you could preorder. We tried this option one night and the hosts brought us the dinner to our cottage. Everything was delicious. Our hosts also gave us some useful information about places to visit nearby.
Because the farm is small and perhaps because of the terrain (not as rocky as some other places), there were not that many succulents in evidence. In spite of this, the farm is still a great place to stay.
The views from the cottage were impressive and although it is a bit of a drive on the dirt road to go back to Vanrrhynsdorp.
Because of the peace and quite, the gracious hosts and the amazing views, we consider this farm as a good base to explore the surrounding areas.
