We spent two nights on the road before returning in the morning to Buenos Aires (by 11 AM to return our rental vehicle). The first night was in the farming community of Oncativo – where we had identified an apartment as part of a home that might be suitable for insect photography. Also the location made for tolerable driving distances on our return from San Marcos Sierra. The second night was in the town of Ramallo, on the Parana River, about 125 miles northwest of Buenos Aires.
This page shows some of the interesting aspects of the return to Buenos Aires.
Oncativo and getting there
Stopping in Oncativo, a farming town, was a compromise for driving distance. We didn’t expect to see much in the way of insects at night. Unfortunately, we didn’t have much opportunity for this, since shortly after I set up the cage out front of the house a big dog came by… It turned out to be friendly, but it got into our room and took some convincing for it to leave. Then there was another more barking dog on the street outside, and I decided that was enough. So we really didn’t make many obs’s that night.

Ramallo
Our drive from Oncativo to Ramallo was mostly a long highway drive, but we arrived early enough to see the town and waterfront – with the large number of summer tourists camping in a park there. We were able to make insect observations that night and actually saw many interesting ones, despite being mostly an agricultural area. The cabin we selected was on the edge of town to increase the opportunity for night visitors and we did have those visitors.
