To make satellite imagery more easily accessible to users of this website we have added links that take you to specific geographical sectors that are less-commonly available from many meteorological websites.  For example, if you want to see the latest imagery for the Galapagos Islands or for the Lake Titicaca region you can click on the specific links rather than go to the meteorological pages and play with the various settings on these websites (it takes considerable trial-and-error to get what you want).  So try out our new link (it is under the meteorology for biologists tab) at:  https://thetravelingnaturalist.org/satellite-imagery-animation-sectors/

I also explain how to adjust the links to get what you want (e.g. longer loop times or different geographical regions). Remember, these loops typically only show the last 3-5 hours of images (20 images at every 10 minutes is a 3 hr 20 min loop), so it may be dark when you first click on them.  If so, return when there is daylight in your region of interest.  All links but two (the last two) are visible imagery loops – the last two are infrared loops  that will show imagery at any time (the brightness is inversely proportional to the temperature of the object – dark objects are warm and cold objects (usually high clouds) are bright.
